The land where the farm is located offers many opportunities for different, unforgettable walks; not only will you discover the treasures of nature, or the marvellous world-famous architecture, but also the excellent wine and food: starting from Siena, to move on to the unmistakeable shapes of San Gimignano, until the soft hills of Montalcino or the shining blue of the Argentario sea. To list all the attractions located near our country house is almost an impossible task, but we have created a small selection of the places we would like to recommend. Please find it below.
Located in the heart of Maremma, of which it is the undisputed Capital, it is only 10 km away from the sea. The most important placet to visit are: the Medici walls, the Cassero Senese and the Dome. (distance: 55 km)
The earliest documents mentioning the Petriolo Spa date back to the first half of the XIII century; the fortress however, the only remaining example of fortified spa, was built in 1404. Some ruins can still be seen. The sulphur water erupts from the tubings at a temperature of 40°C: it flows into pools dug in the rocks to then join the river Farma, where it creates a natural pool and is mixed into the colder river water. Very crowded and perhaps more known to foreigners than to Italians, the Petriolo Spa are at least as beautiful as the more renowned Spa of Saturnia.
Small village surrounded by medieval walls, with 15 towers in perfect conservation status. (distance: 40 km)
The nature reserve of the Lower Merse, created in 1996, is 1743 ha large, at the boundaries of the Casalino country house woods, between the rivers Merse, Ombrone and the torrent Farma. The area is mostly coverei by woods, where many different species find their home: sparrows and other birds, emerald toads, small salamanders, boars, deers, roes, porcupines and the highest number of otters in Italy, a country where they almost face exctinction.
Typical medieval village, rich with works of art such as its 13 imposing towers, part of the UNESCO world heritage. (distance: 80 km)
It is a monastic complex, founded as a consequence of an oath by Charlemagne of great historical importance. (distance: 33 km)
It is the main centre of the Grosseto mining hills. The historical area is centered around the starry square, where the ancient and impressive Dome is located. (distance: 56 km)
18 km far from Grosseto, it is a renowned beach location, considered by Legambiente one of the best Italian beaches. It features a medieval castle and the picturesque historical centre. At a short distance there is Punta Ala, another famous beach location. (distance: 60 km)
It rises on a rocky promontory over the sea and it dominates the whole coast of Argentario. It has Etruscan origins, and it history i salso linked to Garibaldi and the Thousand expedition. (distance: 65 km)
A unique city, thanks to its substantial stylistic consistency, unmistakeable example of typical Italian landscape. The main place to visit is Piazza del Campo, where the traditional Palio takes place. (distance: 35 km)
A medieval village with an imposing castle. Mainly renowned for the high quality wine, like the Brunello. (distance: 53 km)
The town of Pari, similar to a small crib, towers between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto, at an almost equal distance between the two cities (32 km from Siena and 38 km from Grosseto). The connections with the cities and with the nearby town of Civitella Marittima are granted by a bus line (Rama). In Paganico (18 km away) many services are offered: public services, post office, a bank, doctors and various types of shops, whereas in Pari food stores, general stores, a newsagent, a tobacconist and two excellent typical restaurants can be found.
10 km. far from Grosseto, it is one of the most interesting archaeological areas in Italy. In fact it was Etruscan first and Roman afterwards (VII century b.C.). (distance: 35 km)
Capital city of the Renaissance art, rich of unique historical and artistic masterpieces. Some examples: the Uffizi museum, S. Maria del Fiore, the Giotto clocktower, S. Croce. (distance: 107 km)
A Cistercian abbey, of which only the external walls remain, but still extremely fascinating due to the mystery of the legends of the Breton cycle that surrounds it. (distance: 33 km)
It is only a few km. from Castiglione della Pescaia. It has Etruscan origins, dating back to the VI century. Recommended for a visit are the Cyclopical Walls (also known as walls of the Arce), the Archaeological Museum and the Etruscan ruins. (distance: 58 km)
One of the first nature parks in Italy and one of the most interesting destination, it is an intact example of the Maquis. Near the Ombrone's mouth there are the last examples of the swamps that covered the whole area long ago. (distance: 50 km)
